美国当地时间7月9日-11日，国际标准化组织ISO/TC189陶瓷砖技术委员会年会在美国南卡罗来纳州的Clemson（克莱姆森）举行，这是ISO/TC189第24届年会。会议由ISO/TC189秘书处主办，TCNA（北美瓷砖协会Tile Council of North America）承办，来自澳大利亚、巴西、加拿大、中国、德国、以色列、意大利、西班牙、日本、墨西哥、土耳其、英国、美国、哥伦比亚等十四个国家的60多名代表参加了会议。

    9日会议集中讨论第一小组的议题（由第一小组召集人主持），讨论的议题有薄砖的标准、大规格瓷砖干挂安装、海关代码与吸水率的检测、关于中国外墙砖标准的提案、轻质砖、放射性测试、抗冻性测试等测试方法等等。会议期间，中国代表介绍了中国瓷砖方面的海关代码是属于海关系统管辖，对吸水率的测试提出了以“真空法”为主的倾向性意见；还具体介绍了我国对于制定外墙砖标准的看法：由于我国外墙砖的年产量已经超过10亿平方米，外墙砖在强度、色差等方面的要求与其他种类瓷砖差别较大，特别是我国2013年已经开始实行薄型砖行业标准，并已计划于2015年启动外墙砖的国家标准制定，希望ISO也考虑制定相应的外墙砖标准。

    10日、11日的会议讨论了瓷砖的破坏强度、尺寸、铺贴、薄砖的安装与测试、瓷砖表面抗菌、瓷砖系统可持续性、下一届ISO/TC189年会等议题。值得一提的是会议第七工作组主持讨论的“瓷砖系统可持续性”的标准草案，类似于我国瓷砖工业环保标准，其中涉及瓷砖生产过程的重金属排放、能耗、污染物排放等，这将对我国陶瓷行业环保标准的起草制定具有重要的参考意义。

    ISO/TC189年会最后的议程是对相关ISO标准讨论结果进行表决，每个参会国家代表一票，会议产生了19项表决结果，大部分议案都获得全票通过，仅一项由第五工作小组负责的关于“瓷砖、玻璃砖、石板砖背件（Backer Board）的测试方法与标准”起草工作的取消议案，没有获得全票通过，会议（TC189）决定取消ISO/CD16575关于“背件”（Backer Board）标准的起草工作，并因此解散第五工作小组，遭到第五工作小组主要成员英国、澳大利亚代表的反对，加拿大弃权。
